Leeds to Makkah and Madinah: a practical Umrah planner for 2026–27

Planning Umrah from Leeds: start with the airport

Leeds has its own airport at Yeadon, about 13 km from the city centre and usually 25 to 30 minutes away. For a holiday in Spain it is ideal. For Umrah it is not: there are no direct flights from Leeds Bradford to Jeddah or Madinah, and we are not aware of any hub-airline connections from there that would get you to Saudi Arabia on one ticket.

So, like most of West Yorkshire, Leeds pilgrims head west. Manchester Airport is around 80 km away, roughly an hour and a quarter by car along the M62, and it is the only airport in the North with a non-stop Saudi service. Every Leeds package we sell departs from Manchester.

Two ways to fly

Our 4★ and 5★ packages use Saudia’s non-stop service from Manchester to Jeddah, a flight of about six and a half hours. The airline flies daily and steps up to ten departures a week from 1 November 2026, including a new overnight flight. Our 3★ packages connect with Turkish Airlines in Istanbul, which typically adds a few hours to the journey but keeps the price lower.

Neither option currently flies direct to Madinah, as there are no non-stop UK–Madinah flights. You land in Jeddah, and our transfer takes you on to Makkah, around 60 to 90 minutes by road outside peak hours.

Leeds Umrah prices

Our Leeds packages start from £625 per person at 3★, £725 at 4★ and £895 at 5★. Prices are per person with four sharing a room, include return flights from Manchester, the Umrah visa, accommodation and transfers, and are confirmed at booking. You can go for 7, 10, 12 or 14 nights.

  • 3★ Umrah: Al Kiswah Towers in Makkah (900 m–1.4 km) or Emaar Andalusia (700–800 m), with Al Aqeeq Al Rawda by Sedra (about 650 m) or Zowar Alalami (300–350 m) in Madinah.
  • 4★ Umrah: Sheraton Makkah Jabal Al Kaaba, about 200 m from the Haram with a pedestrian bridge, and Dallah Taibah, 160–200 m from Masjid an-Nabawi.
  • 5★ Umrah: Pullman ZamZam Makkah, about 100 m from the Haram, and Anwar Al Madinah Mövenpick, around 50 m from the Prophet’s Mosque.

Students and young professionals

Leeds is a big university city, and we hear from students and recent graduates planning their first Umrah on a tight budget. A 7-night 3★ package, with four nights in Makkah and three in Madinah, is usually the most affordable way to go. Sharing a quad room with friends keeps the price at the lowest rate.

Month-by-month: when to go from Leeds

This table pulls together average temperatures and what each month means for a Leeds traveller this season. Temperatures are long-term averages for daytime highs in °C.

Month Makkah high Madinah high What to know
November 2026 35.6 30.4 Quieter before the winter holidays
December 2026 32.5 26.0 School Christmas break from around 19 Dec; busy, book early
January 2027 30.9 24.4 Among the coolest months; cold nights in Madinah
February 2027 32.6 27.0 Ramadan expected from around 8 Feb; half-term falls in it
March 2027 35.4 30.8 Eid around 9 Mar; last entry 23 Mar
April–May 2027 39.0–42.4 35.5–39.7 Umrah season closed
June 2027 onwards 43.9 43.0 New season expected after Hajj; very hot

Reading the calendar

For families tied to the school year, December is the main option before Ramadan. Leeds City Council and academies set their own dates, so check your school, but across England the Christmas break usually starts around 19 December. If you can travel outside the holidays, January offers some of the most comfortable weather of the year.

April and May are closed because the season ends ahead of Hajj, which is expected around 15 May 2027 for the Day of Arafah. The last entry date for this season is 23 March, so Easter holidays are ruled out. No dates have been announced for 1449 yet. It is expected to reopen after Hajj, typically around late May or June, and our team will confirm dates as soon as the Ministry announces them. June Umrah and summer Umrah will then be possible, though the heat is intense, with average highs above 40°C.

Leeds and its Muslim communities

Leeds is home to a sizeable and mixed Muslim population. There are long-established families of Pakistani, Kashmiri and Bangladeshi heritage, Arab and African communities, converts, and a constantly changing student population from around the world. Neighbourhoods such as Harehills, Beeston and Hyde Park each have their own masjids and their own way of doing things.

That variety means no single Leeds trip looks the same. A Beeston family might want a 14-night 4★ stay with grandparents; a group of students might want the cheapest week possible. We are happy to build either, and to keep a whole group from one masjid on the same flight from Manchester.

First-timers, converts and women travelling from Leeds

A good share of our Leeds enquiries come from people who have never performed Umrah before, including converts who may not have family who have made the journey. If that is you, there is no such thing as a silly question. We will talk you through what happens at each stage, from landing in Jeddah to your final farewell tawaf, and point you to a scholar or your local masjid for the rulings themselves.

Women from Leeds often ask whether they can travel without a mahram. Saudi rules on this have relaxed in recent years, but the exact conditions can depend on age and on how the visa is issued, so please check with us before booking rather than relying on what a friend was told a few years ago.

The Rawdah for sisters

Visiting the Rawdah in Masjid an-Nabawi requires a permit booked through the Nusuk app, and it can only be booked once every 365 days. Men and women have separate time slots; for women these have included the hours after Fajr until late morning and after Isha. On a longer stay in Madinah, there is more chance of finding a slot that suits.

Ihram, packing and the journey west

Leaving Leeds

Allow plenty of time for the M62 and the approach to Manchester, particularly on weekday mornings and in winter. Many Leeds pilgrims prefer to be driven by family, and a group can share a minibus to the terminal.

When to enter ihram

Jeddah lies inside the miqat boundary, so if you are going to Makkah first you must be in ihram before your plane crosses it. On the Saudia direct flight there is nowhere to change en route, so most people dress in ihram before leaving home or at Manchester and make their intention when the crew announce the miqat, typically about 30 minutes ahead. On the Istanbul routing, you can change during the connection. If your trip starts in Madinah, you enter ihram later at Dhul-Hulayfah. Ask your scholar if you are unsure.

The essentials

Check that your passport is valid for at least six months from arrival, and book the meningitis ACWY vaccine in good time; it must be given at least 10 days before you land. A conjugate vaccine certificate is valid for five years. Bring a warm layer for Madinah in winter, when average lows sit around 12 to 14°C.

One more thing before you commit: the UK government’s travel advice for Saudi Arabia is worth reading now and again just before you travel, as your insurance cover can hinge on what it says.

Questions

Leeds Umrah FAQs

Are there Umrah flights from Leeds Bradford Airport?

No. Leeds Bradford Airport has no direct flights to Jeddah or Madinah, and we know of no hub-airline services there that connect to Saudi Arabia. Leeds pilgrims normally fly from Manchester, which is about an hour and a quarter away by road and has Saudia non-stop flights.

How much is Umrah from Leeds?

Our Leeds packages start from £625 per person for 3★, £725 for 4★ and £895 for 5★, with four people sharing a room. Flights from Manchester, visa, hotels and transfers are all included. Peak dates such as Ramadan and Christmas are higher, and prices are confirmed when booking.

What is the cheapest way to do Umrah from Leeds?

Usually a 7-night 3★ package, sharing a quad room, flying Turkish Airlines from Manchester via Istanbul and travelling outside school holidays and Ramadan. That keeps you at the lowest starting price.

What is the best month for Umrah from Leeds?

It depends on your priorities. January is one of the coolest months and usually quieter, December suits families with school-age children, and Ramadan, expected from around 8 February 2027, is the most spiritually sought-after but also the busiest and most expensive time.

Can I do Umrah from Leeds in April or May 2027?

No. The 1448 Umrah season closes before Hajj; the last date to enter Saudi Arabia on an Umrah visa is 23 March 2027. The next season is expected to reopen after Hajj, typically around late May or June, and we will confirm dates once announced.
