Ramadan Umrah 2027: dates, prices and how to plan it from the UK
Ramadan 1448: the dates that shape your booking
Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin on Monday 8 February 2027, although it could start a day earlier, on 7 February. As with every lunar month, the exact start depends on the sighting of the new moon, so treat every date below as an expectation rather than a fixed point.
For a pilgrim travelling from Britain there is a second calendar that matters just as much: the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah’s season calendar. It sets the final day for issuing Umrah visas and the last day you can enter the Kingdom. Those cut-offs fall shortly after Eid, which is why Ramadan 2027 is effectively the closing chapter of the 1448 Umrah season.
| Milestone | Expected date | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Ramadan 1448 | Mon 8 Feb 2027 (possibly 7 Feb) | First fast; Taraweeh begins the night before |
| Feb half-term (England and Scotland) | 15–19 Feb 2027 | Roughly the 8th to 12th days of Ramadan |
| Last ten nights begin (21st night) | Evening of Sat 27 Feb 2027 (approx.) | Peak demand and peak prices |
| Eid al-Fitr | Tue 9 Mar 2027 (or Wed 10 Mar) | Eid prayer in the Haram for those still there |
| Last Umrah visa issued | 9 Mar 2027 | Visas must be issued by this date |
| Last entry into Saudi Arabia | 23 Mar 2027 | No arrivals on an Umrah visa after this |
| Last departure | 7 Apr 2027 | End of the 1448 season |
Because the visa deadline coincides with Eid, we apply for Ramadan visas well ahead of time. Leaving your booking until the final fortnight of the month is the riskiest way to plan this trip.
Fasting in the Haram: what the month actually feels like
Ramadan changes the rhythm of both cities. Days are quieter and more inward; the hours after Maghrib are when Makkah and Madinah come alive, with Taraweeh drawing the largest congregations of the year and many pilgrims staying on for Tahajjud in the later part of Ramadan. Most of our travellers sleep in two shifts, resting during the afternoon and again after Fajr.
Breaking your fast in the courtyards of Masjid an-Nabawi or around the Kaaba is something people tend to describe for years afterwards. It also means the mosques are at their fullest, so the distance between your hotel and the Haram matters far more in Ramadan than at any other time. A five-minute walk in November can feel very different at Isha in the middle of the month.
Weather while fasting
One genuine advantage of Ramadan 2027 is the season. Falling in February and early March, it avoids the extreme heat of the summer months.
- February: Makkah averages a high of about 32.6°C and a low near 19.9°C; Madinah is cooler at around 27.0°C by day and 14.1°C at night.
- March: Makkah climbs to an average high of about 35.4°C (low 21.8°C), with Madinah around 30.8°C and 17.4°C.
Nights in Madinah can feel genuinely cool in February, so pack a light layer for Taraweeh and the walk back to your room before suhoor.
Ramadan package prices by hotel tier
Ramadan is the most requested period of the Umrah year, and hotel rates near both mosques rise accordingly. Our Ramadan packages start from the prices below. Each is per person, based on four people sharing a room, and includes return flights, the Umrah visa, hotels and transfers. The final price is confirmed when you book, since it depends on your dates, departure city and room type.
| Tier | From (per person, quad) | Makkah hotel options | Madinah hotel options |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3-star | £935 | Emaar Andalusia (700–800 m) or Al Kiswah Towers (900 m–1.4 km) | Zowar Alalami (300–350 m) or Al Aqeeq Al Rawda by Sedra (~650 m) |
| 4-star | £1,195 | Elaf Kinda (160–280 m) or Sheraton Makkah Jabal Al Kaaba (~200 m, pedestrian bridge) | Dallah Taibah (160–200 m) or Elaf Taiba (220–500 m) |
| 5-star | £1,335 | Swissôtel Makkah (210 m) or Pullman ZamZam Makkah (100 m), both in Abraj Al Bait | Anwar Al Madinah Mövenpick (50 m) or Pullman Zamzam Madinah (110 m) |
The full terms are on our booking policy page.
Which tier makes sense in Ramadan?
If anyone in your group is older, has limited mobility or is travelling with small children, we would steer you towards 4-star or 5-star this month. Being 50 to 200 metres from the gates means you can return to your room between Taraweeh and suhoor rather than spending the whole night outside. Younger, fitter groups often find the 3-star hotels perfectly workable, especially in Madinah, where Zowar Alalami sits only 300–350 metres from Masjid an-Nabawi.
Early, middle or last ten: choosing your part of the month
Very few people can take the whole of Ramadan away from work, so most pilgrims choose a section of it. Packages run for 7, 10, 12 or 14 nights, split between the two cities (7 nights is four in Makkah and three in Madinah; longer trips divide evenly).
The opening days
Arriving for the first week lets you settle into fasting in the holy cities while crowds are still building. Prices are at the lower end of our Ramadan range, and you are likely to find more choice of hotels.
The middle of the month and February half-term
School half-term in England and Scotland falls on 15–19 February 2027, which lines up with roughly the second week of Ramadan. That makes it the obvious window for families with school-age children. We cover it separately on our February half-term Umrah page, because the weekend-to-weekend dates sell quickly.
The last ten nights
The final ten nights, expected to begin on the evening of 27 February 2027, are when many hope to witness Laylat al-Qadr. Demand is at its highest and prices are highest. If this is your goal, read our dedicated last 10 nights Umrah packages page and book as early as you can.
Flying out during Ramadan
Our 4-star and 5-star Ramadan packages from London Heathrow and Manchester use Saudia’s non-stop flights to Jeddah, which take about six hours to six and a half hours. Other departures and our 3-star packages route with Turkish Airlines via Istanbul (Glasgow excepted, which flies Emirates via Dubai), where the Istanbul–Jeddah leg alone is around four hours. You can see the airport options for your area on our departure cities page.
Islamic rulings allow a traveller to defer the fast, but many pilgrims prefer to keep it. If you plan to, ask us for a flight time that suits suhoor at home or iftar on arrival, and remember that the journey from Jeddah airport to the Haram is roughly 60 to 90 minutes by road outside peak times, and can run longer near Maghrib.
Ihram when you land in Jeddah
Jeddah sits inside the miqat boundary, so if you are heading to Makkah first you must be in ihram before the aircraft crosses the miqat line. Crew usually make an announcement about 30 minutes beforehand. Many people change at the UK airport and make their intention when the announcement comes. Pilgrims who start in Madinah enter ihram later, at Dhul-Hulayfah, on the way to Makkah.
Paperwork to sort before Ramadan
- Passport: valid for at least six months after the date you arrive in Saudi Arabia.
- Meningitis ACWY: required for everyone aged one and over, given at least 10 days before arrival. Book your appointment by mid-January if you plan to arrive in the first week of Ramadan.
- Nusuk permits: your Umrah needs a Nusuk permit booked for a set date and time slot. A visit to the Rawdah in Masjid an-Nabawi is limited to once every 365 days, so if you have been in the past year you may not get another slot.
- Travel advice: before committing to any dates, look at the latest FCDO guidance on Saudi Arabia, which currently advises against all but essential travel, and confirm with your insurer how that advice affects your cover.

Questions
Ramadan Umrah Umrah FAQs
When is Ramadan 2027 expected to start?
Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin on Monday 8 February 2027, with a possibility of Sunday 7 February depending on the moon sighting. Eid al-Fitr is expected on Tuesday 9 March 2027, or a day later. We build our Ramadan packages around these projected dates and adjust flights if the sighting moves the month by a day.
How much does a Ramadan Umrah package cost from the UK?
Our Ramadan 2027 packages start from £935 per person at 3-star, £1,195 at 4-star and £1,335 at 5-star. Prices are per person with four sharing and cover flights, visa, hotels and transfers. Trips that include the last ten nights cost more because hotels near the mosques reach their highest rates then.
How early should I book Umrah for Ramadan?
As early as you can. Hotels close to Masjid al-Haram and Masjid an-Nabawi fill first, and the Saudi Umrah visa deadline for this season is 9 March 2027, the expected day of Eid. Booking several months ahead gives you the best choice of rooms and leaves time to arrange your meningitis vaccine.
Can I do Umrah after Eid in March 2027?
Only within a short window. The last date for issuing Umrah visas in the 1448 season is 9 March 2027, and the last date to enter Saudi Arabia is 23 March 2027. A trip shortly after Eid is possible if the visa is issued in time, but anything beyond 23 March cannot go ahead.
Do I have to fast while travelling to Umrah in Ramadan?
Travellers are permitted to postpone the fast and make it up later, and many scholars allow this for the journey day. Plenty of pilgrims still choose to fast. Speak to your own scholar about what suits you, and tell us your preference so we can suggest flight times that fit.
Is Ramadan a good time for elderly parents to do Umrah?
It can be deeply rewarding, but the crowds are the heaviest of the year. For older parents we suggest a hotel within a short walk of the Haram, such as our 4-star or 5-star options, a 10- or 12-night trip so the pace is gentler, and avoiding the last ten nights if mobility is limited.
