Why pilgrims choose 5-star

A 5-star Umrah is less about luxury than about time and energy. When your hotel is a minute or two from the mosque, you can attend every congregational prayer, rest properly between them and still have strength left for extra tawaf, Qur’an and du’a. For older pilgrims especially, that proximity can decide whether the trip is a joy or an ordeal.

Our 5-star packages place you closer to the Haram than any other tier we sell, and from Heathrow and Manchester they include non-stop flights to Jeddah.

Abraj Al Bait in Makkah

Both of our Makkah hotels at this level are part of the Abraj Al Bait complex, the group of towers immediately facing Masjid al-Haram. Pullman ZamZam is 100 metres from the mosque and Swissôtel 210 metres. Staying here means the walk to the Haram is short and direct, and it is easy to slip back to your room between Asr and Maghrib or after a late-night tawaf.

Anwar Al Madinah Mövenpick

At just 50 metres from Masjid an-Nabawi, this is the closest hotel in our entire range. It is the one we suggest when a parent uses a walking stick or tires easily, because the distance to the mosque is about as short as it can be.

Pullman Zamzam Madinah

Our second Madinah option, 110 metres from the mosque, offers almost the same convenience and gives us flexibility when Anwar Al Madinah is fully booked on popular dates. Either way, you are no more than about two minutes from the mosque on foot.

What the 5-star price includes

Our 5-star Umrah packages start from £895 per person, with four people sharing a room. The price includes return flights, the Umrah visa, both hotels and transfers throughout. We confirm your final price at booking, once dates, airport and room type are set.

That starting price applies to standard months; 5-star rooms are in particularly high demand over the last ten nights of Ramadan and New Year, when prices rise. Ask us to confirm the deposit and payment dates before you book. See the booking policy for the full terms.

Flights that match the hotels

Booking from London Heathrow or Manchester, your 5-star package includes Saudia’s non-stop flight to Jeddah. From Heathrow the flight takes around six hours to six and a quarter; from Manchester, around six hours twenty to six forty. Pilgrims in Bedfordshire travel to Heathrow too, about 45 to 60 minutes by road from Luton, as set out on our Luton Umrah packages page.

From other UK departure points, 5-star packages connect via Istanbul with Turkish Airlines, or via Dubai with Emirates from Glasgow. Whichever route you take, Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz airport is about 60 to 90 minutes from Makkah by road outside peak times, while Madinah airport is roughly 20 to 30 minutes from Masjid an-Nabawi. There are currently no direct flights from the UK to Madinah.

Is 5-star right for you?

Strongly recommended for

• Elderly parents and grandparents. A walk of one to three minutes, rather than ten or twenty, lets them attend more prayers with less strain. Tell us about any mobility needs when you enquire.
• Peak dates. In Ramadan, and particularly the last ten nights, crowds make even short distances feel long. Being next to the mosque helps a great deal.
• Short trips. On a 7-night package you have four days in Makkah. Minimal walking means more of that time is spent in worship.
• Summer travel. With Makkah averaging highs above 43°C in June and July, staying within 100 to 210 metres of the Haram cuts time in the sun.

Perhaps not essential for

• Fit young adults travelling in the cooler months, who may be just as happy at 4-star or 3-star and could put the difference towards a longer stay.
• Pilgrims who plan to spend almost all their time inside the mosque and rarely return to the hotel.

Making the most of being next door

Pilgrims who pay for a hotel beside the mosque sometimes spend the trip much as they would at a cheaper one, staying inside the Haram from dawn to night. That is perfectly valid, but the real benefit of 5-star comes from using the short distance deliberately.

• Rest between prayers. Return to your room after Dhuhr for a proper sleep, then go back refreshed for Asr. The energy saved adds up over a week.
• Time your tawaf. With the Mataf only minutes away, you can watch for a quieter moment and head down when the crowd thins, rather than committing hours in advance.
• Bring the family together. Grandparents can rest at the hotel while younger members pray, then everyone meets for Maghrib without anyone making a long trip.
• Plan ziyarat in the early morning. Visits to Jabal al-Nour, Masjid Quba or Mount Uhud can be done before the heat builds, leaving the rest of the day for the mosque.

5-star compared with 4-star and 3-star

At starting prices, the step from 4-star to 5-star is £170 per person. For a parent who would otherwise struggle with the walk, many families decide that is money well spent.

Travelling with older relatives: practical points

• Choose a gentler pace. A 10 or 12-night package lets older pilgrims rest between activities rather than squeezing everything into a week.
• Pick cooler months if you can. In March, Makkah’s average high is about 35°C; by July it is above 43°C.
• Plan the Rawdah visit. Rawdah slots are booked on Nusuk and limited to one every 365 days, with separate times for men and women. Staying 50 metres away makes an early slot far easier to reach.
• Check vaccinations early. Meningitis ACWY is mandatory at least 10 days before arrival. The MoH also recommends COVID-19 and seasonal flu vaccines for Umrah pilgrims.
• Passports: six months’ validity from arrival is required. Older relatives who travel rarely should check theirs well before booking flights.
