Umrah from London: a Heathrow-based guide for 2026–27
Why a London Umrah begins at Heathrow
Pilgrims who live in the capital have one real advantage over most of the country: a non-stop flight to Jeddah is on their doorstep. Heathrow is the only airport in the south of England with a direct service to Saudi Arabia, and Saudia is the airline that flies it. In the air, the journey takes roughly six hours to six hours fifteen minutes.
That is why our 4★ and 5★ London packages use Saudia from Heathrow. Our 3★ packages, built to keep the cost down, connect with Turkish Airlines through Istanbul instead. Whichever you choose, you land in Jeddah, and our driver takes you on to Makkah, about 60 to 90 minutes by road when traffic is light.
What has changed on the London–Jeddah route
If your family last went a few years ago, you may remember more choice. British Airways flew its final Heathrow–Jeddah service on 24 April 2026 and now calls the route permanently suspended. Saudia has filed a reduced winter timetable from Heathrow, dropping from 14 to 11 flights a week, so seats on school-holiday dates tend to go early.
There is currently no non-stop flight from London to Madinah. Saudia’s last scheduled Heathrow–Madinah service ran in 2020. If you would prefer to start in the city of the Prophet ﷺ, we can price a connecting itinerary for you.
| Route from London | Airline | Stops | Approx. journey | In our packages |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Heathrow – Jeddah | Saudia | Non-stop | 6h–6h15 flying | 4★ and 5★ |
| Heathrow – Istanbul – Jeddah | Turkish Airlines | One | About 9–12h door to gate | 3★ |
| Heathrow – Cairo – Jeddah | EgyptAir | One | About 9–12h | On request |
| Heathrow – Amman – Jeddah | Royal Jordanian | One | About 9–12h | On request |
| Gatwick – Jeddah or Madinah | None | No direct service | – | Not used |
Connection times vary, so one-stop totals above are estimates. Airline timetables change often, and we confirm your exact flights in writing before you pay a deposit.
Getting to the airport from your corner of the capital
From central London, Heathrow is about 24 km away, and the drive normally takes 45 minutes to an hour. If you are setting off from east London, south of the river or the outer boroughs, build in extra time for the M25 or the A4, particularly on a weekday morning.
Many families ask a brother or cousin to drop them off, which turns the departure into a proper send-off. If you are travelling with elderly parents, a wheelchair or several heavy cases, a pre-booked car is usually far less stressful than the Tube with luggage.
Gatwick and Luton: why we leave them out
Gatwick has no direct flights to Saudi Arabia any more. Saudia’s Gatwick–Jeddah service ended in March 2026, and Wizz Air cancelled its planned September 2026 return to both Jeddah and Madinah. Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways and Emirates still fly from Gatwick to their hubs, so a one-stop route is possible, but for most south Londoners the drive to Heathrow is worth it for the non-stop flight.
Luton has no Saudi flights either, which is why our Umrah packages from Luton also depart from Heathrow.
London packages, hotels and prices
Each London package bundles your return flights, Umrah visa, hotels in both holy cities and all road transfers. Prices start from £625 at 3★, £725 at 4★ and £895 at 5★. These are per person with four people sharing a room, and the final price is confirmed at the time of booking. You can stay 7, 10, 12 or 14 nights.
- 3★ from £625: Emaar Andalusia (700–800 m from Masjid al-Haram) or Al Kiswah Towers (900 m–1.4 km), paired with Zowar Alalami (300–350 m from Masjid an-Nabawi) or Al Aqeeq Al Rawda by Sedra (around 650 m). Flights via Istanbul.
- 4★ from £725: Elaf Kinda (160–280 m) or Sheraton Makkah Jabal Al Kaaba (about 200 m, reached by a pedestrian bridge), with Dallah Taibah (160–200 m) or Elaf Taiba (220–500 m) in Madinah. Saudia non-stop from Heathrow.
- 5★ from £895: Swissôtel Makkah (210 m) or Pullman ZamZam Makkah (100 m), both in the Abraj Al Bait complex, with Anwar Al Madinah Mövenpick (50 m) or Pullman Zamzam Madinah (110 m). Saudia non-stop from Heathrow.
Matching the package to the pilgrim
A young professional using a week of annual leave often picks a 7-night 3★ Umrah package, with four nights in Makkah and three in Madinah. Parents with school-age children tend to value the shorter travel day of a 4★ package with Saudia. For grandparents who find long walks hard, a 5★ hotel a few minutes from the Haram can make the difference between praying in the mosque and praying in the room.
London term dates and the 2026–27 Umrah calendar
We were not able to confirm every London borough’s term dates, so please check your child’s school or council website. Most boroughs follow a pattern close to the rest of England: a Christmas break from around 19 December, a February half-term in the middle of the month and an Easter break that starts in late March.
Two things stand out this season. February half-term is expected to fall in the first half of Ramadan 1448, which is expected to begin around 8 February 2027, so a half-term trip will be a Ramadan Umrah with Ramadan demand. Our February half-term packages are priced for that.
The Easter holidays, by contrast, start after 23 March 2027, which is the last date to enter Saudi Arabia on an Umrah visa this season. A family trip over Easter 2027 is therefore not possible. If you want a quieter school-holiday window, look at December Umrah over Christmas, or take a short break in January if your workplace or school allows.
The 1449 season has not been announced. It is expected to reopen after Hajj, typically around late May or June, and we confirm dates as soon as the Ministry announces them.
One city, many communities
London’s Muslim population is large and remarkably varied. Our enquiries come from families with roots in South Asia, the Arab world, East Africa and Turkey, and from converts making their first Umrah. Some have been many times; others have never flown long haul.
That mix shapes how we plan. A mosque study circle may want everyone on the same flight and in the same hotel, while a newly married couple may want a quieter 12-night trip. If you are organising for an extended family or a group from your local masjid, ask us for a group quote and we will keep everyone together where availability allows.
Practical points for Heathrow departures
Ihram on the way to Jeddah
Jeddah lies inside the miqat boundary, so you need to be in ihram before the aircraft crosses it. On the Saudia direct flight, cabin crew usually make an announcement about 30 minutes beforehand. Many Londoners change into ihram clothing at Heathrow or on board and make the intention when the announcement comes; on the 3★ route, the Istanbul connection is another chance to change. Follow the guidance of your own scholar.
Health, documents and travel advice
Every pilgrim aged one year or over needs a meningitis ACWY vaccine given at least 10 days before arrival, and your passport must be valid for at least six months from the day you land. Travel advice for Saudi Arabia can change, so read the latest FCDO guidance for Saudi Arabia before you book and again before you leave for Heathrow; your travel insurance may depend on it.
Paying for your trip
Our flight-inclusive packages are ATOL protected (ATOL No. 11203), and you should receive an ATOL Certificate when you book. Our booking policy sets out the details. Already have a price from another agent? Send it through our beat my quote page.

Questions
London Umrah FAQs
How much does Umrah from London cost?
Our London packages start from £625 per person for 3★, £725 for 4★ and £895 for 5★, based on four sharing a room. That includes return flights, the Umrah visa, hotels and transfers. School-holiday and Ramadan dates cost more, and the final price is confirmed when you book.
Is there a direct flight from London to Jeddah?
Yes. Saudia flies non-stop from Heathrow to Jeddah, and it is currently the only airline doing so. British Airways has permanently suspended the route. Saudia’s winter schedule is around 11 flights a week, and the flight takes about six hours. Our 4★ and 5★ London packages use it.
Can I fly to Saudi Arabia from Gatwick for Umrah?
Not directly at present. Saudia ended its Gatwick–Jeddah flights in March 2026, and Wizz Air cancelled its planned return. You can still travel with one stop via Istanbul, Doha or Dubai on Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways or Emirates, but our London packages fly from Heathrow.
Are there direct flights from London to Madinah?
No. There is no non-stop London–Madinah service at the moment; Saudia’s last scheduled Heathrow–Madinah flight was in 2020. Most pilgrims land in Jeddah, perform Umrah in Makkah and then travel to Madinah by road or by the Haramain high-speed train, which takes about two hours.
Can my family do Umrah from London in the Easter holidays 2027?
Unfortunately not. The Saudi authorities have set 23 March 2027 as the last date to enter the country on an Umrah visa for this season, and English Easter holidays begin after that. Christmas, or February half-term during Ramadan, are the realistic school-holiday options this year.
How early should I leave for Heathrow?
From central London the drive is usually 45 minutes to an hour, but allow more from east or outer London and at busy times. Aim to reach the terminal in good time for check-in, and leave extra room if you are wearing ihram or travelling with elderly relatives.
