February 2027: Umrah in the first weeks of Ramadan

February 2027 is Ramadan month

For British Muslims, February 2027 will not feel like an ordinary winter month. Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin on Monday 8 February (possibly Sunday 7 February, depending on the moon sighting), which means almost the whole of February is spent fasting, and the most sought-after nights of the Islamic year begin before the month is out.

Performing Umrah in Ramadan is something many people save for over years. It is also the busiest and most expensive period of the season, so February needs more planning than a quiet winter trip. This guide sets out the key dates, the weather you will be fasting in, what changes for families during half-term, and how our packages are priced.

Key dates for February and early March 2027

Islamic dates depend on moon sighting and may move by a day. School dates come from the councils listed; check your own school.

Date What happens
Mon 8 Feb 2027 (or 7 Feb) Expected first day of Ramadan 1448
15–19 Feb 2027 February half-term in Birmingham and Edinburgh; Glasgow has 15–16 Feb plus an in-service day on 17 Feb
Evening of Sat 27 Feb 2027 Approximate start of the last ten nights (the 21st night)
Tue 9 Mar 2027 (or 10 Mar) Expected Eid al-Fitr; also the last day Umrah visas are issued for the 1448 season

That last line matters. The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has set 9 March 2027 as the final date for Umrah visa issuance, with the last entry into the Kingdom on 23 March. Anyone hoping for a late Ramadan trip should have their package and visa arranged well before the end of February.

What fasting in Makkah feels like in February

Ramadan in winter is a gift for pilgrims. February is still one of the cooler months, with Makkah averaging a high of 32.6°C and a low of 19.9°C, and Madinah averaging 27.0°C by day and 14.1°C at night. Fasting through a warm afternoon is tiring, but nothing like the summer Ramadans of recent decades.

The rhythm of the day changes completely. The Haram is busiest from Maghrib through tarawih and on into the night, with many pilgrims sleeping in the late morning and early afternoon. Practical points that help:

  • Do your Umrah rites at night, after iftar, when you can drink water freely; avoid starting tawaf in the heat of the afternoon while fasting.
  • Drink steadily between Maghrib and Fajr rather than all at once at suhoor; Zamzam is available throughout the mosque.
  • Pack a warm layer for Madinah, where nights around 14°C feel colder when you are tired and hungry.
  • If you take regular medication or have diabetes, talk to your GP about fasting while travelling before you book.

Flying in ihram while fasting is another consideration. Jeddah is inside the miqat, so you need to be in ihram before the aircraft crosses the line, and you may land close to iftar. Many pilgrims choose to rest at the hotel after the transfer and begin their Umrah after tarawih.

Half-term in Ramadan: bringing the family

The February half-term (15–19 February 2027) lands in the first half of Ramadan, which gives families a rare chance to experience the blessed month in the Holy Cities without taking children out of school for long. Combine the half-term week with the weekends on either side and a 7- or 10-night package fits neatly.

Half-term departures are in particularly high demand, so they are priced separately on our February half-term Umrah packages page. Children aged one and over need the meningitis ACWY vaccine at least 10 days before arrival, and older children who fast should be watched closely in the heat of the Haram courtyards. Note that Glasgow’s break is shorter than England’s, so check exact dates before you book.

February and Ramadan package prices

All prices are per person, four sharing a room, and include return flights, the Umrah visa, hotels and transfers. They are confirmed when you book.

Package 3★ 4★ 5★
February / Ramadan dates £935 £1,195 £1,335
February half-term £995 £1,195 £1,425
Last ten nights (from 27 Feb) £1,055 £1,225 £1,515

You can choose 7, 10, 12 or 14 nights. Our wider Ramadan Umrah packages page covers every departure across the month, and the last ten nights packages are designed for those seeking Laylat al-Qadr in the Haram.

Hotels: why distance matters more in Ramadan

In most months a 700-metre walk to the Haram is a pleasant stroll. In Ramadan, when the mosque and surrounding streets are packed for tarawih and the night prayers, every metre counts. A hotel close to the gates lets you return for suhoor, rest between prayers and get back in without fighting your way through crowds.

  • 5★: Pullman ZamZam Makkah (100 m) and Swissôtel Makkah (210 m) in the Abraj Al Bait complex; in Madinah, Anwar Al Madinah Mövenpick (50 m) or Pullman Zamzam Madinah (110 m).
  • 4★: Elaf Kinda (160–280 m) or Sheraton Makkah Jabal Al Kaaba (about 200 m, with its pedestrian bridge); Dallah Taibah (160–200 m) or Elaf Taiba (220–500 m) in Madinah.
  • 3★: Emaar Andalusia (700–800 m) or Al Kiswah Towers (900 m to 1.4 km); in Madinah, Zowar Alalami (300–350 m) or Al Aqeeq Al Rawda by Sedra (around 650 m).

If you are travelling with elderly parents in Ramadan, we generally suggest 4★ or 5★ for the Makkah leg, even if you economise in Madinah.

Splitting your Ramadan between Makkah and Madinah

Every package divides your nights between the two cities: four in Makkah and three in Madinah on a 7-night trip, and an even split on 10, 12 or 14 nights. In Ramadan the order matters more than usual. Because no UK airport currently has a direct flight to Madinah, most February itineraries land at Jeddah, perform Umrah first, and finish in Madinah.

Iftar in Masjid an-Nabawi is an experience pilgrims talk about for years, with long rows of dates, water and food shared among strangers. The city is calmer than Makkah, and the cooler evenings (an average low of about 14°C in February) make the late prayers comfortable if you dress warmly.

If praying in the Rawdah is on your list, book it through the Nusuk app as soon as your dates are firm. Each person can visit once every 365 days, and men and women have separate time slots; for women these have included the period after Fajr until 11:00 and after Isha until 02:00. During Ramadan those slots are in very high demand, so a visit cannot be guaranteed, but an “instant track” may be offered to people near the mosque when there is capacity.

Some pilgrims prefer the reverse order, ending in Makkah so their final days of Ramadan are spent at the Ka’bah. Tell us which you prefer when you ask for a quote and we will build the itinerary around it.

Flights to Jeddah during Ramadan

Seats on the direct Saudia flights from Heathrow and Manchester are the first to go in Ramadan. Our 4★ and 5★ packages from London and Manchester use them; other packages and airports connect via Istanbul with Turkish Airlines (Glasgow via Dubai with Emirates), a journey of roughly nine to twelve hours in total depending on the connection. There are no direct flights from the UK to Madinah, so most itineraries begin in Makkah.

Deposits, ATOL and booking

Flight-inclusive packages are ATOL protected (ATOL No. 11203). The FCDO’s position on travel to Saudi Arabia may change between booking and departure, so review the latest FCDO travel advice at both points and confirm that your insurance still applies.

If the whole of Ramadan feels too busy, consider late January beforehand, or March, which brings Eid al-Fitr and the final, quieter weeks of the season.

Questions

February Umrah FAQs

When is Ramadan 2027?

Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin on Monday 8 February 2027, or possibly Sunday 7 February, depending on the moon sighting. Eid al-Fitr is expected on Tuesday 9 March 2027 or Wednesday 10 March. This means nearly all of February 2027 falls within Ramadan, with the last ten nights expected to begin on the evening of 27 February.

How much is a Ramadan Umrah in February 2027?

Our February Ramadan packages start from £935 per person for 3★, £1,195 for 4★ and £1,335 for 5★, four sharing. February half-term dates start from £995, £1,195 and £1,425, and last ten nights packages from £1,055, £1,225 and £1,515. All include flights, visa, hotels and transfers.

Can we do Umrah in Ramadan during February half-term?

Yes. Half-term runs from 15 to 19 February 2027 in Birmingham and Edinburgh, which falls in the first half of Ramadan. Glasgow's break is shorter. It is a popular option for families, so half-term departures are priced separately and sell quickly. Book early to secure direct flights and hotels close to the Haram.

What is the weather like in Makkah in February?

February is still mild. Makkah averages about 32.6°C during the day and 19.9°C at night, while Madinah averages roughly 27°C and 14°C. That makes fasting much more manageable than in summer, although afternoons in the open courtyards can still be hot, so most pilgrims perform their Umrah after iftar.

What is the last date for an Umrah visa in 2027?

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has set 9 March 2027 as the last date for issuing Umrah visas in the 1448 season. The last entry into Saudi Arabia is 23 March 2027 and the last departure is 7 April 2027. After that the season closes for Hajj.

Is it hard to fast and do Umrah at the same time?

It is demanding but very achievable in February's mild weather. Most pilgrims rest during the day and perform tawaf and sa'i after iftar, when they can drink water. Staying close to the Haram makes a big difference. Anyone with a medical condition should speak to their GP about fasting while travelling before booking.
